Election season is here—and with it comes an important opportunity to use our voices.
As physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, students, and members of APTA Minnesota, we advocate every day: for our patients, for our communities, and for the future of our profession. Voting is another important way we make our voices heard.
This month, I encourage you to VOTE—both in our APTA Minnesota election and in the elections taking place in our communities.
Vote in the APTA Minnesota election opening November 1st.
Our association is shaped by members who are willing to lead and by members who take the time to choose those leaders. Please review the candidates on this year’s ballot and cast your vote. Your participation helps determine the direction and priorities of APTA Minnesota. You can view the current slate of candidates here.
Make a plan to vote in the general election.
Regardless of your political views or affiliations, I encourage every eligible member to participate in our democratic process. Learn about the candidates and issues that matter to you, make a plan, and vote.
Consider supporting candidates and the political process.
Minnesota’s Political Contribution Refund program allows eligible Minnesota voters to receive a refund for qualifying contributions to participating state candidates and political parties—up to $75 per individual or $150 for a married couple filing jointly in 2026. If you are interested in participating, you can learn more about the program and its eligibility requirements through the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
Support the voice of physical therapy.
The APTA Minnesota Political Action Committee helps strengthen the voice of our profession by supporting candidates who understand and support issues important to physical therapy, our patients, and access to care. The PAC may support candidates across the political spectrum based on issues affecting our profession. If you are interested, I encourage you to learn more about the PAC and consider making a voluntary contribution.
Advocate beyond Election Day.
Our responsibility to engage does not end when the ballots are counted. Decisions made at the state and federal levels affect payment, access to physical therapy, scope of practice, administrative burden, and many other issues that directly affect our patients and profession. APTA makes it easy to contact elected officials through its advocacy resources and Take Action Center.
Whether you cast a ballot for APTA Minnesota leadership, vote in a local, state, or federal election, contact a legislator, or support advocacy efforts, your voice matters.
This election season, I hope we can demonstrate the same commitment to participation and advocacy that we bring to our patients and profession every day.
Please take a few minutes to learn, engage, and vote.
