Kayla Van Der Weerd from the Mayo Clinic presented a Platform at APTA’s CSM in Anaheim. Her topic was “Upper Extremity Function and Quality of Life in Breast and Chest Lymphedema: A Cross-Sectional Study.” She reported that greater magnitude of chest wall and breast lymphedema are associated with higher levels of upper extremity disability. Assisting in the study were Jennifer Bradt from the Mayo Clinic, John Hollman from the Mayo Program in Physical Therapy and Peter Rundquist from Concordia PT Program.
Kayla works in the Mayo Clinic’s Outpatient Lymphedema and Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic and is Board Certified as a Clinical Specialist in Oncologic Physical Therapy and a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. . In addition, she is a mentor in the Mayo Clinic’s PT Oncology Residency Program.
