Aaron Hellem from the University of Minnesota PT Program presented a Platform session at APTA’s CSM in Anaheim. His topic was “Mechanisms of Rotator Cuff Deformation During a Simulated Volleyball Spike.” He concluded that Increased GHJ external rotation during arm cocking may serve a protective role against subacromial impingement. Assisting in the research project were students Kyle Meyer and McKenna Knipp along with Paula Ludewig and Arin Ellingson from the U of MN Program.
Aaron is Board Certified as both an Orthopedic and Sports Clinical Specialist and is a Member of APTA MN’s Nominating Committee. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Sports Performance Enhancement SIG of the AASPT. Aaron’s research interests include joint and tendon biomechanics, evidence-based practice, and data-informed clinical decision making.
