M Health Fairview’s Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program closed this year after a remarkable 22-year run. Founded by Mike Muffenbier (now with Accelerated Physical Therapy), the program was later directed by Peter Ames (now with Summit Orthopedics) and most recently by John Corbo (now with Twin Cities Orthopedics). Over the past two decades, the residency helped develop numerous Sports Certified Specialists (SCS) who continue to advance sports physical therapy throughout Minnesota and across the country.

The program’s legacy extends far beyond these individuals, with graduates serving in clinical, academic, research, and leadership roles throughout the profession. Its impact on sports physical therapy education in Minnesota will continue through the many clinicians it helped train and mentor over the past 22 years.
