President’s Message

Megan Urick, PT, DPT

APTA Minnesota Chapter President

September 2025

This Saturday, September 6th, is the Curiosity Conference. It’s an exciting opportunity for you to get 7.5 CEs while also supporting the MN PT PAC! You can register for this at the link below.

Fast forward to the end of September, and we have a jam-packed three days!

Sunday, September 28th is the TCO Move and Groove 5K and Pediatric Therapeutic Services 1K Kids Fun Run hosted by APTA MN. If you aren’t registered yet, you should be! And don’t forget to invite your friends and family. Our goal this year is to get more community registrants – not just PTs, PTAs, and students.

Shout out to the Lobbyist Search Committee for their hard work this summer. APTA MN officially hired a new lobbyist! Josh Ney, with Ewald Consulting, started on Sept 1st and he’s already hit the ground running. We have a lobbyist meet and greet planned for the evening of Monday, September 29th 6:30-8 pm at Lake Monster Brewing.

Our first priority for Josh is getting our PT Practice Act Bill passed in 2026! What’s in it? Eliminating the arbitrary 90 day rule, allowing direct access during the first year of licensure, updating PTA supervision, and clarifying term and title protection. Get excited! All of this matters for our profession. We’ll be focusing on grassroots engagement to get this bill passed, so watch for more information on that. Our chief author in the House, Liz Reyer, remains committed to our efforts. And don’t forget – our PT Day on the HIll is set for Thursday March 5th. Ask your employer about getting this day off now!

Speaking of the legislature, APTA MN is hosting a virtual Town Hall on Legislative Priorities on Tuesday, September 30th at 7:00 pm. We have PTs from Utah, North Dakota, and Wisconsin coming to share their stories about primary care provider status and imaging. It should be a fun Town Hall to learn from others and share your ideas for what APTA MN should focus our efforts on over the next 3 years!

On Thursday, October 23rd, we have a couple fun events happening!

  1. The Healthcare Leadership Symposium in Golden Valley will be from 8-2:15. This is an interdisciplinary event focusing on mental health. If you’re an APTA MN member and bring a non-PT healthcare colleague, you can get 2-for-1 registration!
  2. APTA MN is also lucky enough to have APTA House Speaker, Bill McGehee, and APTA Staffer, Taylor Enos, here as part of the APTA Road Show! We will be hosting a reception to interact with these APTA icons on Thursday, October 23rd 7-9 pm. Come for a free drink on APTA and the opportunity to win some swag!

Did you know APTA MN has an Ethics Liaison?! His name is Aaron Rindflesch and his role is to disseminate educational material regarding ethics and ethical decision-making, respond to real-life ethical scenarios or questions when and where they arise from members, and work with the APTA Ethics & Judicial Committee to update ethical standards. Once we have our new website, there will be a button to easily request a consultation with our Ethics Liaison. For now, reach out to me if you’d like to be connected with Aaron for an ethics question!

And finally, are you or do you know a student interested in running to be the APTA MN Student Council Representative? This position is primed for an eager PT/PTA student who is looking to connect students in Minnesota to APTA National. This role runs from Jan-Dec 2026. Elections will be held in October. If you’re interested, please email Noah Limbach at noahjr2012@gmail.com!
