Federal Government Affairs Committee

Committee Chair

Jackie Lacek, PTA

Purpose

The APTA Minnesota Federal Government Affairs Committee will work to educate members of Minnesota’s Congressional delegation and other policymakers about the importance of physical therapy, advocate on behalf of relevant federal legislation, and ensure the members of APTA Minnesota are well-informed about our legislative activities.

Goals

  • Develop strategies to increase Congressional awareness about the importance of physical therapy and the transformative role it plays in our nation’s health care system
  • Develop relationships with key members of Congress and other policy makers to help advance APTA and APTA Minnesota supported bills through the legislative process
  • Increase awareness of our federal legislative activities with APTA Minnesota members and implement strategies to see greater member engagement in our advocacy efforts

APTA Capitol Hill Day & Federal Affairs Forum

APTA’s grassroots advocacy at the federal level comes together annually to energize our leaders and make an impact on Capitol Hill.

We have seen the profound impact advocacy can have on the profession of physical therapy. APTA has always been able to count on an extremely “deep bench” of seasoned advocates who have continued to move the needle in the halls of Congress.

APTA MN’s commitment to the future is evident in its ongoing support of students at this event.  Student Scholarships have been awarded since 2010 to educate and mentor students on the importance of advocacy. It has been a life-changing experience for most students who have participated. They are continuing to carry the torch and impress upon legislators the transformative power of physical therapy and impact it has on the lives of millions of Americans.

We encourage every member to join us in the future. Learn, educate, and advocate. Our patients and colleagues are counting on us!
